Given that long waits prompt would-be voters to leave the lines (that's part of the UCP's strategy for urban areas), conventional get-out-the-vote strategies fall short if they don't encourage people to use advance polls and mail-in ballots. +

Silly Q: Is there a time limit on how long we keep the ballot before sending it back as long as it's returned by mail to Elections Alberta before 5:00pm on October 16, 2026? Could we start one day - maybe get interrupted and days later mail it back in?

I actually want to go in person. I want to witness the crowds, and make sure my ballots get into those boxes. I feel like things could go wrong with mail-in.

There is zero evidence of electoral integrity issues involving mail-in ballots. They are counted the same way as regular ballots. All sides need to stop denigrating the work done by Elections Alberta, which is arms-length from government. Comments like this, while unintentional, sow distrust.

Part of me wants to vote in person, especially in light of this year’s data breach, to find out if someone is using my information illegally. That said, the racism/bigotry that will permeate the day & potential for a confrontation with separatists means I will *not* be in line. ❎ 📨 🇨🇦 💪

Any in-person voting, especially in urban areas will be a logistical nightmare. 10 separate ballots to read and reread, mark, fold, and place in 10 separate ballot boxes… That’s the point! There’s four days of advance polling, plus mail in ballots that people can take advantage of. I went to an advance polling during the federal election. I walked in, marked my ballot, and walked out. Five minutes. October 19th will be super busy (I hope), but people can manage that by voting early.

I usually take advantage of advance polling as well but for the referendum the mail in ballot wins out for me.

You can get a mail in ballot. Go to Elections Alberta to get one. I used an advance poll in the last fed election. Walked straight in and was in the voting booth in less than five minutes. You have four days of advance polling dates to choose from.
