McCarthyism wasn't "heartbreaking" either. It was vicious, targeted, criminal, and deliberately career-ruining. It was deceitful, political, and sanctioned by those in power who sought to destroy others. It was motivated by hatred and greed. It was the exact same thing we're going through now.
