A tour group over at Ymerbukta have stumbled across a mummified polar bear while out in their kayaks. Current working theory is that it has melted out of the glacier. Fascinating potential for scientific discovery or horrifying portent of the end of days, TBD.

How cool and what an incredible find! Do you have more pictures of it? I bet it looked gnarly! I'm very interested in bones bdw so I'm not someone who just likes gory pictures.

These are the other published images (the low tide ones from the group at the original discovery and the high tide one from the first researchers to get there). Most of the hair is gone but it is otherwise very well preserved.

Thank you very much for sharing! And nice to hear that some researcher are looking about it. Would be amazing if this bear was 100s of years old! Somehow it looks very peaceful with it closed eyes and sometimes I wish dead things could talk and tell us their stories.

This glacier is a 40km boat trip away from a university staffed by scientists for whom this is basically a dream come true.

If there are news about it, it would be very nice if you could inform us :3

It's *so cool*. I suspect it scared the hell out of a tourist or two, though (not to mention their guide!)
