Hearing the north American "media" reviews of the "The Odyssey" has sound like the cheerleading of a bunch of uneducated, uncritical, uninteresting cowards.
My son is a huge fan of the book. He’s read it 3 times and he is 14 and he did not like it at all. He said it was a poor adaptation of the book. I disliked the animal abuse parts.
We talk a lot about the Jewish-Italian Pact, where we get to play each other in movies because we have similar mental problems and accent areas
We don't talk enough about the big overlap point between Jews and Greeks, which is inordinate pride over things that happened (or didn't!) 3000 yrs ago
And then of course there's the Muslim/Jewish (religion) overlap of having that one geographic location that you're obligated to venerate, despite the fact that the people who govern that location are fucking TERRIBLE
Doctors or lawyers - I think I broke my yiayia’s* heart by being neither.
*and my mother’s too: Greek guilt is a cornerstone of the universe, like dark matter
