A percentage of the player base reacts to growing moral complexity with a desire for a return to simplicity. Publishers try to serve that niche because they like money and sometimes games are simply commercial products whose political and ethical messages are unexamined.

What's the deal with games needing monsters you can kill with no remorse? I keep seeing TTRPGs touting this in their marketing ... There was Obojima, a while back; now Deathbringer with its pig-faced orcs. I genuinely don't get this! What desire is being served here---and whose? 1/
