First mistake... Thinking evangelicals are Christians. They are a cult of Christofascists. There isn't anything remotely "Christian," or 'teaching of Jesus' tied to them, in any way at all. They know the language it opens doors for them. Makes it easier to interact with others. But it's extreamism.
