SCOTUS did not stop Florida from killing James Duckett and will not stop the state from killing Dominick Occhicone today. There were no noted dissents. The state carried out Duckett’s execution earlier this afternoon and is set to kill Occhicone at 6p.

So much for the 8th Amendment.

California Governor Newsom extended California's moratorium on executing in 2019 after a court-ordered one ended. That caused the Republican DA Dan Dow in San Luis Obispo County to write an op-ed 😭😭😭 "I wanna execute people".

I called him asshole on Twitter and he replied! I blocked him, but now I have "free card": I was only indicted because I hurt the DAs feelings. That at least gets me an change of venue to a bluer county.😁

State-sponsored murder is still murder. See also guys in boats in the Caribbean and school girls in Iran…

Executions are heartbreaking. Humanity takes one step forward and ten back. So frustrating.

desantis is a bloodthirsty goon

Rhetorical question: what the actual fuck is wrong with this country...

Duckett’s execution was the 11th by Florida this year. If Occhicone is also executed, his will be the 12th this year by Florida and the 19th in the nation in 2026. Yes, Florida has killed more people than every other state combined.

There were so many holes in the Duckett case and yet a final irreversible punishment is deemed appropriate. This is justice?
