Apparently, a personal obsession of Peter Thiel, who is an investor or founder of Palantir, Anduril, Valar Ventures, Mithril Capital, multiple personal funds called Rivendell, and (most recently) Sauron Systems. He's said to sometimes call Founders Fund (another vehicle) "the precious".
