3/ The very public spectacles commemorating the Storm, attended also by the Serbian Orthodox Church dignitaries and the indispensable Milorad Dodik, are bizarre sights where the gathered crowd applauds in ecstasy whenever some WW2 crime is recounted in gruesome detail. ⬇️

2/ The nationalists here with glee dig up the specters of World War II and parade the Ustashi and Axis crimes committed against the Serbs since the 1980s as an excuse for the local imperialist project of Greater Serbia, now called The Serbian World. ⬇️

True about the first part, if the person looks like an easy mark. As for the clinging to the "Kosovo is Serbia" delusion, the whole big idea is to wait, if it takes 1000 years, until the world balance of power changes, and our Russian and Chinese "brothers" return it.

2/ The non-nationalist commentariat in Serbia has been pointing its ire towards the student movement for quite some time now. Insanely irresponsible on the Russian part, regardless of the morality (or lack of it) among those beachgoers.

The new vatnik talking point is "borderline war crime". As if there is a borderline theft, borderline murder, or borderline breaking and entering. They started using that line when Wildberries got the kinetic sanctions treatment.

9/ It should be noted that the Yugoslav Wars started with the agitprop campaign from Serbia about the persecution of ethnic Serbs outside of Serbia proper and the need to intervene on their behalf, while also unearthing the specters of crimes committed during World War 2. ⬇️

8/ The Serbian media, both the government and student-affiliated and both of the public commentariat, are pushing the narrative about persecution of Serbs in Kosovo, using the demolishing of an illegally built motel in Gazivode as a pretext. ⬇️

7/ Reprisals against people who discovered mass burial sites in the former Yugoslavia are not unheard of. In 2001, Borka Ožegović from Gornji Ratkovo, Bosnia, an ethnic Serb, a few months after she told investigators where to look for remains, was found dead in her home. ⬇️
