Wasn’t my kid and this was the American south in the 1990’s, the decade when a woman fought and won the right to attend The Citadel, an all male military college. How she was treated while she was there was horrific, only because she was a girl. Her courage broke the gender barrier for others.

When my kids did youth cheerleading, our team had a girl on the football squad who was the hardest hitter on the squad. Other teams didn’t like getting tackled by her, AND she was not allowed to advance to jr high or high school teams, cause she was a girl.

Incidentally, the nation with the highest death toll was not the US, Japan, Germany, Italy, or any of western Europe. It was the Soviet Union, then China. Poland lost the biggest percentage of its population.
