The thing about “the discourse” when it comes to popular culture is that there’s the discourse itself, which often involves people commenting on a thing they haven’t seen, then there’s the discourse about the discourse, which often involves people commenting on a thing they haven’t read. Fun!

One of these people spends his time, money and influence getting food to people in need; the other spent his time, money and influence taking it away.

I’m sure someone else must have noticed, but it took a recent viewing of COCO to realize that its central inciting incident—singer steals a song that becomes a hit, not realizing it was meant for the writer’s child rather than as a romantic love song—is the same one used by POWER BALLAD.
