If there’s a “criticism is biography” school in poetry, there’s a “poetry podcast is autobiography” school. Helena de Groot hosts this charming series of discussions with contemporary poets. Not a craft podcast so much as an exploration of a version of the poetic mindset. #poetry #poetrypodcasts

Write a book about writing for mystery (artistic, not whodunnit): a tough mission, one not quite completed here. (This is a problem with several of the books in the “The Art of…” series.) I don’t know that I’ll be any more mysterious after this. Still, readable. #booksky #tinybookreviews

The Art of Mystery | Graywolf PressThe fourteenth volume in the Art of series conjures an ethereal subject: the idea of mystery in fiction. Mystery is not often discussed—apart from the genre—because, as Maud Casey says, “It’s not easy...www.graywolfpress.org

Fuck me. Fuck us all, really. The fact that somebody invented a machine to cut the spines off of books to scan them is a hate crime aimed at anyone who speaks a language.

elia ayoub

There's a video of the machine cutting open books, including clearly old and rare books, and it feels so violent. We do not have to accept this shit.

What I like about this podcast is that it’s about poems, rather than being mostly about poets. (Some podcasts seem to think that nobody is interested in poetry, but they might be interested in some gushing about poets.) Not shy, very entertaining. #poetrypodcasts @rattlepoetry.bsky.social

This seems like it’s a quiet-part-loud type of thing. But no: when universities line up to become defence contractors while the humanities are being starved out, that’s just everyday fascism that, in 2026, nobody thinks they should be embarrassed about.

This book is full of allusions and references (classicial, biblical, Shakespearean), juxtapositions, and abstruseness. In other words, it's a good poet's poetry book, or a good academic's poetry book, which I don't mean as any insult. #tinybookreviews #poetry #canlit @griffinpoetryprize.bsky.social

I try not to post much about medicine here, but this concept is too stupid not to respond to. Cancer is in no respect a toxin disposal mechanism. It is the result of genetic errors that create malfunctioning cells. I hope David Wolfe is held responsible for every gullible dimwit he kills.

Dr. Jonathan N. Stea

Science literacy involves learning just enough about cancer to understand that cancer is not in fact trying to heal you no matter the pseudoscience promoted in the alternative medicine community.

Paul Muldoon is the best rhymer in English poetry today. Fight me. I’ll clarify what I mean: he’s great at inventive rhyme that doesn’t punch you in the head so much as to become sing song, or children’s verse (not that there’s anything wrong with that), or something resembling a pop song (ditto).

It occurred to me that I post poems without comment. But when I do readings, I sometimes add a few words of explanation: This is about the London Underground, which is a wonder of engineering and of effort to create a public good. It’s also often gross and weird and disorienting. But not always.

Perhaps my favourite Muldoon so far. So inventive, so personal. I can’t think of another poet so unafraid of vocabulary, yet so natural with it. The language play is acrobatic, never ostentatious. And the cover’s great. (So many poetry books have terrible covers.) #poetry #booksky #tinybookreviews
