Terrible, and certainly not the way toward a more stable future www.theguardian.com/world/2026/j...
Why are there vending machines with only crisps, chocolate bars and soda in #NHS community hospitals? Not the best way to address a raging obesity epidemic with all of its associated complications…
Was (and still am!) so looking forward to this #BBCprom, but cannot believe it will partly overlap with the World Cup final. It’s unreal, especially considering that even some of the musicians will be wishing they could be watching the match instead Vamos España! 🇪🇸 ⚽️🎼 www.bbc.co.uk/events/eqdhj5
Cool 😎 “subtle differences in the media’s cationic strength did not measurably change permeability, they reprogrammed outer membrane-peptidoglycan crosslinks to modulate vesiculation and envelope functions impacting growth efficiency and mineralization” 🧪
Gemma Reguera 🌎Latest from my lab‼️ We show how cation chemistry controls the structure of the Gram-negative cell envelope and provides reciprocal control of piliation and vesiculation. In Geobacter, this impacts extracellular electron transfer and biomineralization. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Also negative, two overlapping filovirus outbreaks while a lot of the world looks the other way and most rich nations cut foreign aid Thenks @helenbranswell.bsky.social for excellent reporting, as ever!
Helen Branswell 🇨🇦#Marburg in Uganda is confirmed. Uganda formally reported 1 case to #WHO today. A reliable source tells me there are actually 2 confirmed cases. The positive: Uganda is very good at containing outbreaks. The negative: Uganda doesn't like sharing news about them. Link below goes to updated story.
#Marburg update: Reuters reports that the sole case Uganda has acknowledged was in a 1.5 year old child. Very unlikely a baby is the index case. More unlikely a baby will be a sole case. Parents, other siblings if there are any, at serious risk. www.reuters.com/business/hea...
Super excited to share new work with my advisor @nanditagarud.bsky.social! We re-examine the rapidity of adaptation in the human gut microbiome and begin to characterize the adaptive architecture of selective sweeps spreading across human guts. www.biorxiv.org/content/10... 1/n:
