London did well too, contributing around 17 players to the tournament, representing 8 national teams (England plus 7 others). Paris is in a different league though: more than 40 World Cup players were born there, representing roughly 15 national teams.

It becomes suffocating, and at times it is hard to find the motivation to continue. It feels like living on a completely different narrative planet, speaking a different language altogether.

There is so little space left to articulate a different narrative on #migration when all the main parties, much of the media, influencers, and the press officers who work with them repeat the same frames of crisis, invasion, and swarms.

A few seconds later, both politician and voter return to their phones, passively shaped by Elon Musk’s and Mark Zuckerberg’s algorithms and armies of right-wing influencers. Politics reduced to this version of the doorstep is not democracy, it is its capitulation.

The doorstep is a #Labour's fetish: a fleeting encounter between politician and voter used to justify the absence of a vision and lack of principles.

The problem with “what people tell us on the doorstep” is that politicians choose what they want to hear. In reality, this is about accommodating the right-wing press and, once again, dancing to its tune.

And they treat it as a self-evident truth, not even bothering to make an argument for why this “goal” is supposedly good for the country. “It’s what people tell us on the doorstep” has become the all-purpose rhetorical device, the wild card that justifies everything. #netmigration #andyburnham
