it’s amazing that there are ostensibly famous British people i never know about until they die and are remembered as a pedophile
The other day the algorithm fed me 1 part of a 5 part series of some woman targeting a romantasy writer with “why I think her book series is AI generated” and it was just…vibes. With a caveat that said “just my opinion” Trying to ruin someone’s career over vibes AI has created collective paranoia
Erin BibaThe way that everyone sees fantom AI in original work now is such a fucked up secondary downstream AI nightmare consequence. People can’t critically identify real art any longer and so everything gets accused of not being original. I don’t know how we climb out of this hole.
“Vaccines are a plot to curtail the supply of menstrual blood so Big Neosporin can continue to dominate the wound care market” is… a new one.
You mean you got taken by the guy who's entire existence is a scam who has never created anything ever and is only thought of a a genius because a style reporter from the WaPo said so? Weird. I cannot believe this is happening
The Associated PressSpaceX shares are down by half from their June peak as investors worry Musk may have oversold them on its future prospects.
They’re calling it the most theater kid story of all time
Pixie Caseyin insane local news, the 26 year old director of a rocky horror production was arrested for sending threatening messages to himself in order to get the play shut down bc he didn’t want to deal with cast drama www.mynbc5.com/article/rock...
something ken clearly doesn't understand is that any time something like this happens to a trans person online we have to fear for our job fear for our life in ways that few want to acknowledge.
If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"
I'm just gonna say: it somewhat baffles me that people who are understandably skeptical of opaque LLMs as legitimate sources of information will suddenly go full on "the computer KNOWS" when they are using opaque tools to "detect" AI. The computer does not know.
Susanna Kearsley❤️ Gillian Green, publisher at Tor Bramble, told The Bookseller: “HM Wolfe has confirmed that Daggermouth was written entirely without AI. We stand behind our author, and we do not recognise third-party AI detection tools as a fair or reliable measure of authenticity when used on their own.”
There are so many annoying things about this, including that we have already solved off grid power
Mike CaulfieldAlmost *everything* you see in this format, whether infinite power cubes or solar powered houses for the homeless that fold out of suitcases or French "bread libraries" for the poor is liberal catnip bullshit by content farms. Stop being idiots. Thank you.
A big social factor too. Republican officials are terrified of being labeled a traitor, becoming a hate object of right-wing media, and shunned by friends and family. Adam Kinzinger's family members publicly denounced him for saying the Constitution is good and a violent attack on America is bad.
Brian FinucaneMy take on why at least some Rs on the way out the door don’t push back more on POTUS is that they want to remain Rs in good standing in order to take advantage of various post-Congress opportunities.
(OOC: in 1798, Olaudah Equiano released his memoir to the British public. The depiction of slavery from the perspective of a freed slave appalled the public, and swelled the abolitionist cause. Cis folk won't tell the whole truth about us because they don't know it. Support trans journalists)
Assigned MediaGood morning! Isn't it a great day to support independent journalism that serves the trans community and their allies? I KNEW you'd think so too. We're trying to add 50 new members in the month of August. Help us!!! <3!! assignedmedia.org/support/
the obsession with trans women in sports is, apart from the abject bigotry, a symptom of how we take amateur sports participation way too seriously in this country.
Fae: “Tell us your true name.” Me: “…Just my name? No birthdate, no SSN, no fingerprint scan, no address, no mother’s maiden name? Are you sure you’ve even got the right Olivia Waite? There’s like six.” Fae: “What the hell kind of bargains have you been making?” Me: “They call it health insurance.”
The Fae: so we’re going to take you away from here and— Me: I accept! The Fae: and you won’t remember anything and you will not return for a century— Me: I ACCEPT HARDER
"Why can't you just appreciate how revolutionary the job-taking, environment-degrading, information-shredding, technology-hoarding, economy-swamping machine is?" My brother in Christ, there may indeed be a revolution in part because of "AI," but it might not be the one you wanted.
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude
I don't really have an objection to the CEO saying Bluesky is open to all; it's kind of his job to do that. But as others have pointed out, the design of the site means it's harder for trolls/bots/chuds *and also* influencers/hypebeasts to get traction. The "bubble" here is actually normal humans.
