I think one of things you gain in aging is the realization that the rules you've created for your life don't *always* have to be rules if they're no longer making you happy, or if they're constraining you. (A silly example: I read in a teen mag in the 90s that women should always have painted....

So what you're saying is, the minute regulations and tracking were loosened, corporate farms screamed in excitement and gave the order: "We can finally use the cheaper poop water, everyone! More profits for us!" We're all eating poop water produce. Because money.

And! One of the weeding factors librarians take into account is WHO ELSE owns the book. We are interested in preserving access, even if it's through interlibrary loan. (If you aren't sure if your public library offers that service, ask! I guarantee if they do, they'll be delighted if you use it.)

The posters saying "wait till you hear how many books the librarians shred" are being disingenuous. The destruction of books is not by itself what's causing outrage. It's in combination with many other factors, chief among them AI companies' history of unethical and even blatantly illegal actions.
