I read THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES by @katemessner.com with the kids over the weekend, then made the Wright, Algonquin, and Iroquois cookies. I love it when recipes in kids’ books are actually delicious! (I adore this book. It’s the 2nd time I’ve read it this year and it was even better as a reread.)

Since we've been bugging you to send postcards to your House Representative, we made this downloadable design for you to print your own. Print a few at home for your house or bring it to a local print shop for wider distribution. What to write?...
I heard @samiraahmed.bsky.social say this at AASL23 and it’s stuck with me ever since. I have it tattooed on my wrist as a reminder. Don’t waste the gifts you’ve been given. Use them for good.
Thoughts on gatekeeping, children's books, diverse voices, and how you can create a picture book that somehow, remarkably, gets everything right, all at once. I review the latest from @annewynter.bsky.social & Micha Archer: #kidlit 📚👍 afuse8production.slj.com/2026/05/08/r...
If you're part of the kidlit community, you probably already know our current "ambassador" declared in a new book that 94.7 percent of kids' books are "crud." It was a careless and harmful thing for someone in that role to say in this moment, and I've been thinking about where we go from here.
When we write for children, we write to lay aside our own ego, our own platform, our own importance. The child who reads our books should not be thinking about the book's author at all. Only the child matters - their imagination, their sense of wonder, their precious and growing Mind. That's it.
I love the way Meg Medina used her time as National Ambassador for Young People's Literature to lift up so many voices in our amazing community of creators. Such a great example of what leaders do when they're offered a platform. Check out her interview series here: www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
