Interesting stuff as always, but maaaan cool it with the AI slop cartoons.

In that first skeet, I should have said: The documents show that China could have, but didn't, interfere with U.S. election infrastructure. The influence operations did occur, and we've known that for years.

I actually really love this memo because it's clearly the ramblings of some random source the FBI has recruited, and they pass along the claims with a note that says: "1. This is impossible. 2. Call him back if you want."

The only way to cover this is to say plainly, repeatedly, and pointedly: Trump is knowingly lying about what the intelligence says, about what happened, and he's doing it in an attempt to change election rules in his favor. This isn't analysis. It's demonstrably true.

Loved this piece @annamerlan.bsky.social. I actually dig Crockett. (His cover of Jamestown Ferry slaps.) But this ended up being a great intro to Twin Temple, who I'd never heard of before.

There's no intervention we can do here, really. On anti-corruption efforts? Sure, because that engages the question of aid. But it's Zelensky's decision of who he wants in his war cabinet.

(This is super pedantic. Obviously I take your point on 'ICE shooting' being better. But this framing, especially in headlines, has started to bug me.)

020

Even then, I feel like it could be avoided The CNN hed is: DHS breaks hours of silence on deadly ICE shooting in Maine, saying officer was ‘fearing for public safety’ Why not: DHS breaks hours of silence after ICE officer shoots and kills man in Maine, says he was 'fearing for public safety'

See, I have a hard time writing "ICE shooting," because I don't think "shooting" needs to be qualified. But that's also why "officer-involved shooting" sucks. I think this all over-complicates it. "ICE officers shot and killed two people in less than a week." Direct, subject-verb, sentence.

Liberal nations have the power to fight back against this — by and large, they are not. www.thestar.com/opinion/star...

This has been building for awhile. While it might all feel kind of academic, a dismantling of the international legal system is going to be a massive gift for autocrats and génocidaires www.bugeyedandshameless.com/p/donald-tru...

They're not the same, but PA elections and broader PLO reform are essential. *The* path to Palestinian statehood runs through an effective local government. That's precisely why Netanyahu has consistently hobbled Fatah and democratization. I wrote about it here: foreignpolicy.com/2024/02/21/g...

(This isn't a rhetorical question. There is a long list of things we can and should do. I wrote my column to put one idea on the table. I would very much like to see others proposing alternatives.)
