I'm not sure. The Tories still say they're right wing; Labour still claim to be 'centre left' (lol). No neoliberal ever admits they're doing neoliberal economics, so they all have to cultivate a masking ideology to conceal the neoliberal fundamentals of austerity / deregulation / privatisation.

Today's foraging yielded some fun results 😊 On the left, seeds from a kind of bulb plant I've never seen before; possibly something called 'spring squill'. On the right, seeds from the bladder campions I first discovered a few weeks ago, finally ready to harvest.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but he seems to be saying that "the left" and "the right" are two groups detached from the governing neoliberal consensus? But the neoliberal establishment is firmly right wing, so... I'm not really sure what's being said here.

Which is true almost everywhere, let's be honest (incl here) and we should always call it out. The same goes for Russian interference in our democracy. It's definitely happening and is very dangerous, but a lot of our mainstream politicians are happy to go along with it too (eg Brexit).

It makes complete sense to me. It's the old maxim of 'multiple things can be true at once', right? We can unconditionally condemn the Russian invasion, & recognise that the excuse of 'dealing with Nazis' was a false pretext, while also knowing there is a far right problem in Ukraine's military.

Or we could force companies to use standardised bottles and containers that can be cleaned and reused on an industrial scale, with bottle returns and collections freely available. That wouldn't be profitable, so we don't do it. But it's the type of thinking we need if we want to survive this.

We could instead distil it back into chemical feedstock on days when we have a renewable energy glut. But that's not profitable, so it's not considered as an option.

Sure, that's what we have now, but my point is that we need to think bigger. The solutions offered to us by capitalism cannot save us. For example, we 'recycle' plastic for profit: by shipping it overseas and forcing poor people to do it for slave wages in awful conditions. That's not sustainable.
