It's not bad advice in may cases, but unless relationships are getting much, much worse the trend line is worrying.

One of mine, at least recently, was 4000 weeks.

Thanks for sharing: yes it’s a difference-in-difference design. as the article you shared notes, it’s nevertheless strong evidence for a link (but not definitive).

It’s not all doomscrolling, but Social media is increasingly anti-social Only 7% of Instagram time & 17% of Facebook time is spent on content from friends or followed accounts. The rest is algorithmic video from strangers.

I’m currently coollaborating on a review of intervention science and this problem is embedded throughout that literature. Our paper is led by a research from the global south ( Bruna Mota) , and we are evaluating problems of generalizability. Buy damn I hope this paper didn’t scoop our paper :(

Actually, let me add: the most disheartneing is when people who literally spend their life studying social justice, discrimination and sexism do absolutely nothing when it happens. That's the worst.

Thanks, Lauren. I'm glad there is an audience who cares about this stuff because it's absolutely disheartening to see the culture of silence and inaction that often happens in these cases (and this is my fourth rodeo helping to report a sexual harasser so I've seen it all).

Thank you both for having the courage to say something publicly. This is the only way we change the norms in our field and institutions. Having gone through this a couple times now the thing this is the most chilling is the silence from people who claim to care about this stuff.
