The current Philippine president, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has never repudiated the “war on drugs” as a government policy and has yet to rescind the orders and other policy statements issued by Duterte. There have been 1,273 killings in the anti-drug campaign since Marcos became president in June 2022.

Her sentence would keep her in prison until she’s 100 years old. The Tunisian authorities should immediately overturn her conviction and drop these abusive prosecutions.

The abusive conviction and sentencing of Bensedrine reflects the cruelty of President Kais Saied’s government, which has sought to strangle human rights and social justice in Tunisia. For decades, Bensedrine has been harassed, jailed, and pushed into exile for her human rights work.

The risk of further spread within the sites is cause for massive concern. The Congolese government and international partners should prioritize community engagement and build trust so that health workers can safely reach those in need.

Ebola cases and fatalities have been reported in several displacement sites in Ituri, where health care workers have struggled to gain access due to distrust and resistance from residents.

In Ituri province, around one million people fleeing violence are displaced. Some of them took refuge in displacement sites, where overcrowding and a lack of sanitation make them significantly more vulnerable to infection.
