It's official: The EU agreed to build cruel deportation centers outside the EU. By pushing people out of the EU legal framework, it strips them of protection and outsources detention, suffering, and responsibility – actively dismantling legal safeguards.

Italian boats abduct people: Yesterday, our aircraft saw an Italian-gifted patrol boat used by the so-called Libyan coastguard to kidnap around 17 people back to Libya. It is the same boat that was circling our Sea-Watch 5 on the day the Libyan militias shot at us.

“There was no warning. The shots were fired first, and then we started talking.” While our captain is investigated in Italy, the EU stays silent as its partners shoot at civilians at sea & continues its cooperation with the so-called Libyan coastguard.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is being intercepted by the Israeli military off Cyprus - another blatant example of international law being ignored when politically convenient. The EU cannot pick and choose whose violations matter. International law applies to all.

After rescuing 166 people at sea, we finally disembarked in Brindisi. Italy once again assigned a distant port, forcing survivors to spend 4 more days at sea after our ship was being shot at and chased by militias. We wish all survivors the best and applaud their courage.

We will not be intimidated! We continue our operations and have rescued another 13 people out of distress tonight. We are on our way to the assigned port of Brindisi, but it is still 2,5 days away. 166 people need a safe port, now!

Early this morning, our Sea-Watch 5 crew rescued 65 people, many suffering from hypothermia, while still shaken by yesterday’s shots fired by the so-called Libyan coastguard amid complete inaction from the EU and Germany. All 155 survivors on board need safety now!

No surprise: once again it's an NGO ship that got the job done. Ocean Viking rescued the people this morning. No state rescue, no Frontex intervention. Because the EU doesn't give a damn about these people's lives. But we won’t shut up about it.

Update: 2 boats were rescued by the NGOs ‪@sea-eye.org‬ and Solidaire. Unfortunately, our aircrew saw how 1 boat was violently intercepted by Libyan militias. We're disgusted by the violence enforced to keep people from seeking safety & assume the remaining boat was also intercepted.
