I hated reading this so much. And I feel despair in many directions.

This was all 25 years before the Wilmington Coup. But yes, that was the ultimate endpoint of this logic.

In the event that anyone is confused about my views: it was very good to speak out against slaveowners and their defenders. It is also good to speak out against dehumanizing and authoritarian police practices.
