The polish exiles were temporarily held at inspection points, where their few valuables were taken from them. When the surviving polish people were allowed to return to their homes after the defeat of the Nazis, everything had been ransacked.

I saw this monument in Pozan Poland in a park last week. It also had information boards about how the polish people were literally forced out of their houses, and had to leave useful things like blankets and pans etc, so the Germans that were given their homes would have everything they need.

I spotted some of these in Poznan and immediately thought, "I know those statues. Where have I seen them before?" Turns out they are in Chicago at the south end of Grant Park. They were made in Poznan.
