TROPICS UPDATE: The tropics remain on holiday. Yesterday, the long-range computer models hinted that something might try to spin up way out in the Atlantic, but our consensus has backed off that idea. Often models oscillate in low odds scenarios. Holiday continues for now. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: Hostility reigns supreme across the tropical Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf, so no development is expected well into August. But there are finally some hints in the models of some activity in the eastern Atlantic in a couple of weeks. We'll see. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: On a positive note, every factor we look at is detrimental to tropical development in the Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf. On the other hand, the water around Florida and Louisiana are warmer than normal, which is adding to the heat misery. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: From Africa to Central America, the atmosphere remains amazingly hostile to tropical development. There is no sign that will change anytime soon. 100 years ago today the east coast from Miami to Charleston was recovering from the July 1926 hurricane. More at HurricaneIntel.com

100 YEARS AGO TODAY the 1926 Nassau Hurricane was sweeping north along the Florida coast. Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale took hits, and the storm was heading north. TROPICS UPDATE: While the Atlantic is on tropical snooze, the Pacific is busy. Hurricane #Fausto is heading toward #Hawaii. It will be a weak version when it reaches the state about Tuesday. The odds favor it tracking offshore just to the north, but it will be close. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UDATE: #Bertha's remnants are over the mountains of northern Mexico. It's trek across the Gulf and Texas was mostly uneventful, but some bands of strong winds developed behind the storm. Now the Atlantic, Gulf, and Caribbean have hit snooze. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: It's #Bertha's last day. The center we track is over SW Louisiana but most of the significant weather is far out over the Gulf. Still, it's causing gusty winds and elevated tides along the coast. The whole mess will move into Texas later today. Stay aware. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: #Bertha 's landfall in southeastern Louisiana is imminent, but it's looking more likely that the story will continue after the circulation we've been following dies over land. A center could reform and continue toward TX arriving tomorrow afternoon. More at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: Disheveled Tropical Storm #Bertha is flexing it's muscle a bit but the strong and hostile upper winds will increase, limiting intensification. Also, the worst weather will stay offshore. Still, water rise and dangerous surf are likely in the northern Gulf. More at HurrricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: Depression #Two is struggling under hostile upper winds & with dry air wrapped into its circulation. But it's still expected to organize enough to become Tropical Storm #Bertha. The environment ahead never gets very conducive to development however. The analysis at HurricaneIntel.com

TROPICS UPDATE: Only a total of 9 named storms, 4 hurricanes, and 1 Cat 3+ is the new prediction from Colorado State forecasters. It's a reflection of the confidence that they now have that El Niño will be strong and have a significant dampening effect on the season. More at HurricaneIntel.com
