Food for thought: AI probably can’t reliably generate visual illusions such as this. (I am sure it can generate plenty of things that *could* be illusions but how would it test it without a full working model of a human perceptual system?)

The two rows of squares are moving to the right at the same speed; however, the top row appears to be moving to the right, while the bottom one appears to be moving to the left. 上下の正方形の列は等速度で右に動いていますが、上の列は右に、下の列は左に動いているように見えます。

I recently switched to the "For You" feed (thanks to @grimalkina.bsky.social) and I am FINALLY getting the content I want (exactly this).

Just found this intriguing new function by Wadea Abu Dahoud for making a log-scale axis squiggly, mostly to act as a visual cue/speed bump that the axis isn't linear. github.com/wade31985-ar... #rstats #dataviz

Anyone can leave a comment on this proposed OMB regulation here: www.regulations.gov/commenton/OM... Here's what I said: "This is an unwarranted and dangerous incursion into the scientific process. Scientists should be the ones making decisions about science."

How you approach teaching directly impacts how your students feel in the classroom, especially those who are already questioning their belonging. Please don't pass your bad feelings on. (From link.springer.com/article/10.1...)

I actually only respond to messages sent by owl

samuel mehr

i noticed this line on @aaronbornstein.bsky.social's website, regarding email from prospective students: "I do not respond to messages that appear to have been written by ChatGPT or similar tools." I also ignore LLM-generated student email - great idea (and courteous) to state this ahead of time !

Agree, and I have a lot to say about the problems with that paper: graymatter.ghost.io/my-students-...

My students could tell you what is wrong with that ChatGPT paperEverything we interact with – from the food we eat, to the technology we use – changes our brains in one way or another. It's an entirely separate question to know whether these changes are meaningful...graymatter.ghost.ioThoth

I think the "this is your brain on chatgpt" paper has done tremendous harm to people's abilities to think about AI as a technology. AI is not going to turn us all into mindless zombies. Spreading hysteria about this benefits nobody.

This is, mmm, quite disruptive. 😬

Kind of surprised that this hasn't been bigger news. It's finals week for a whole lot of universities, and yet, Canvas (a learning/grading platform used by ~9,000 schools globally) is currently inaccessible because of a pay-or-have-your-data-leaked hack. www.insidehighered.com/news/tech-in...
