That doesn't mean community doesn't exist online—I met my husband in the Star Wars Galaxies forums! But when people yearn for nostalgic things like Blockbuster, it's often the connection they miss with other people that makes the memory rosy, not necessarily the activity itself (to OP's point).

If we want these kinds of opportunities for the generations who come after us, we have to prioritize making them, and then protect them. THEN we have to pass the baton to the next generation, and teach them that true community doesn't magically appear, it's built with intention.

Legitimately devastating in equal parts for them as people, and the industry at large. Just awful.
